What is fusion dance? Fusion gets its name from fusing different styles of dance together. It initially grew out of the blues dance scene in the UK and the US. There are not rigid steps or rules to follow, but instead a focus on musicality, improvisation, as well as the lead-follow connections between dancers. Our aim is to make dancing fun, and give you some more ideas and tools to help you feel comfortable and creative on the social dance floor. We’ll teach you to dance both solo and with a partner to a variety of music from slow to high-energy - anything that makes me want to dance, from blues, funk, electronic to pop.
Who is the class aimed at? Anyone. You don’t need to have any dance experience, but if you do, you can build on the skills you already have. You don’t need to come with a dance partner. The only restriction is it’s for adults.
The class is taught by Emma Kirkby and Melissa Davy who are blues and fusion teachers.
Doors open at 6:45. The first week will have a solo movement class between 7-8pm, followed by a partnered class 8-9pm. The following weeks we’ll have an hour to practice what we learnt in the previous class, followed by a class between 8-9pm. Classes on the 7th, 14th and 21st Dec.
Getting there: It’s super easy by public transport as it’s very close to Newcastle train station. If coming by car, I suggest parking at the bottom of Westgate Rd (NE4 6AA) as its free after 7pm, not far from the venue, and a group of us can walk together to our cars at the end of the night.
To book you place please email melissadavy@gmail.com Cost £25 for the course (£20 students) or £10 per class, pay as you go (£7:50 students) (If cost would prevent you from attending, please get in touch with Melissa, and we can see if we can sort something out)
