About the event
Doors open at 7pm, the hour dance class starts at 7:30pm, followed by social dancing with great blues and fusion tunes till midnight.
Blues dancing developed alongside blues music. The class is open to all levels and is suitable for those who have never danced blues before. We dance because it is fun, and it’s sociable and because music and movement is good for our hearts and our minds.
What is blues dancing? Blues dancing comes from the same tradition as blues music. It is an improvised, partner dance, which has a relaxed, grounded feel. This clip is a great example: http://youtu.be/xYtf5Tfdi_w
The class is taught by Melissa Davy.
You'll find us upstairs at the Prohibition. Getting there: It’s super easy by public transport as it’s very close to Newcastle train station. If coming by car, I suggest parking at the bottom of Westgate Rd (NE4 6AA) as its free, not far from the venue, and a group of us can walk together to our cars at the end of the night. Cost: £10 or £7.50 for student or for those where money is tight at the moment, £5 for social only. Pay on the door.
